Medelinked Add AI Health Bot and Blockchain To Their Platform

Published on 16th January 2018 by Medelinked

Users can use a Health Bot to check their symptoms and triage as well as have a tamper proof record of all the health data they have shared with their health providers on a distributed ledger.

Oxfordshire, 16th January 2018 – Medelinked have added two new features to their platform to further enhance their patient focused offering.  Available in the Medelinked mobile apps (iOS and Android) the Medelinked Health Bot replaces the existing Symptom Checker with a Machine Learning based bot.  Although in its early days the bot uses existing Symptom Checker APIs from the platform along with Machine Learning to work out key symptoms and take users through a triage process to offer further information about their symptoms.  The initial release of the bot won't be as sophisticated as other triage services such as Ada or Your.MD, however, over time it will learn about symptoms and can offer more accurate information about them.

Blockchain Assisting Users Manage Permissions for Sharing Health Data

Managing all health data in one place helps individuals securely track, monitor and improve their health state, ensuring their latest health data is accessed and enabling the provision of the best possible care, keeping individuals in control of their own health.

A game changing chapter, Medelinked has integrated a distributed ledger that will be part of the core Medelinked platform.  Unlike other Blockchain based offerings in healthcare, Medelinked, won't initially be storing health data directly on the Blockchain but instead will be using Smart Contracts to hold information about records and data that have been shared by patients with their health providers and vice versa.  The main aim is to use smart contracts to regulate access to data. The data itself may never be stored on the Blockchain for several reasons (mainly publicly available sensitive information). However, the implementation will allow patients and health providers to manage permissions to off chain data. This way, whenever someone accessed data shared by the patient, the platform would generate a transaction, which would essentially create a tamper-proof access log of data that has been shared.

Using Medelinked individuals are also able to create personal and family health profiles online that are secure, locate healthcare specialists and connect and share their health records with their network of trusted health partners and providers (including doctors, dentists, physiotherapists, trainers, insurers, clinical researchers).

The other key reason, as Medelinked CTO, Jas Singh explains is around user understanding of the technology, "At this stage Blockchain is a relatively new technology and not everyone will understand what it means for them as a user or individual, or they may not even care beyond the service we provide them.  Therefore, we have added Blockchain to our existing record sharing capability to hide the complexities that come with Blockchain as a user.  We want to empower users to own their medical data and can share it with their network of health providers and carers which is the key focus.  Blockchain allows us to provide a tamper-proof log of what has been shared with whom and for how long giving patients complete control".  With the distributed ledger in place the plan is to explore how other datasets could be placed directly on to the Blockchain for sharing purposes (for example, anonymised data for research).

The Ethereum based Private Distributed Ledger will be operational at the end of January and users of the service will notice no difference to the way they currently use the service to share their health data with their health providers and carers. They will, however, be able to see details of the data shared with their providers that will come directly from the distributed ledger.
